Hello Fellow Travelers,

Due to the lateness of getting this update on Mexico to you (computer issues-aaagh!),
this newsletter is just a very brief report with a few “picturas” for your pleasure.
I intend to create a bigger photo album (watch for a link on my website under
Humanitarian Program) so you can meet the delightful and appreciative children
of Zihuatanejo. I also have heartfelt “Thank You” letters from them in my scrapbook.

Lorne and I came away with awe for what Lorenzo and Maria Elena and Jose Islas
from PorLosNinos Foundation (For the children) accomplish in very trying circumstances,
but also the tremendous appreciation of these children for the smallest of things,
things we take so much for granted.

I would ask you all, to consider, going to www.porlosninos.com and donating whatever
you feel you want to or can. My personal challenge is for you, your family, your group
or your office to donate a desk at $45.00 each to give these children a comfortable place to sit while they learn.
We are continuing to raise money for walls, bathrooms, computers, shoes, backpacks and other educational needs.
If everyone gives a little, it means a lot. Your donation will change a life and it will also change yours.

And oh yes, Lorne and I got engaged in Mexico. The wedding date still to be announced!

MexicoFeb2012-1

Our journey to Zihuatanejo (near Ixtapa, southern Mexico) began with 5 suitcases filled with
educational supplies. How to get it all in?
MexicoFeb2012-2

Zihuatanejo reminded us of a Mexican versions of Gibsons, B.C. Could we be seeeester-ceeties?
MexicoFeb2012-3

First stop. Lorenzo and Maria Elena took us to La Joya Escuela.
The school of Joy! Note the old and the new desks.

MexicoFeb2012-4

New desk. They need a minimum of 100 to qualify for free shipping @ $45.00 each..
MexicoFeb2012-5

And maybe new walls!

MexicoFeb2012-6

One three-roomed classroom is just completed. Another one to come. Still raising funds

for a new kitchen where they can be assured that all the children are fed.

MexicoFeb2012-7

The children are shy at first . . .

MexicoFeb2012-8

But they soon want to be in the picture. Meet my new famiglia . . .

MexicoFeb2012-9

Later that day, Maria Elena took me to Casa Del Pacifico schools where we had already
donated some funds for enough books and pens, pencils for four classrooms.

MexicoFeb2012-10

Maestra Ms. Lily was very happy with her new lime-colored bag for her own books . . .

MexicoFeb2012-11
The third school was La Noria, in Zihuatanejo where Maria Elena, Maestra Marina
and I handed out backpacks full of school supplies to the most in need. All los ninos
are eager to learn English. More backpacks and soccer shoes please!
(Video shots coming soon on YouTube.)

The fourth school, Cihualteo is located in the hills. There was no shade from the
sun so our funds were able to purchase the materials and begin construction while
we were in the area. Yeeha! They still need lockable and sanitary “banos” to keep
out the local animals. Anyone into construction?

You can also go to my blog and read more about how easy it is to donate to a wonderful
foundation.
www.porlosninos.com.

Thank you in advance for any support, small or large, you might give to these very
deserving and grateful children! More information on my upcoming events to come shortly.

Blessings to you!
